He won the biggest acting prize of the night and gave a rousing speech, but after accepting his award at Sunday’s 91st Academy Awards, best-actor winner Rami Malek took a tumble off the front of the Oscar stage in front of a room of his peers.
People reports: “The star did his best to hold his best-actor statue aloft. Hitting the ground, Malek looked surprised and was helped up by those around him. Paramedics were then called to treat the actor.”
But Malek was not really worse for wear and by the time he got backstage, he had the wherewithal to win over even his harshest critics in the press room: “I will say this: I don’t think, critically, the decision on [Bohemian Rhapsody] was unanimous, but I appreciate everything you had to write. As a kid, I read film criticism and learned so much from it. So no matter what, I still do very much appreciate you.”
