Robert Pattinson’s Dior ad finally drops: exceeds expectations or ad-fail?

Finally, at long last, Dior dropped their ad campaign with Robert Pattinson. They’ve been teasing this damn thing for MONTHS. We’ve had cryptic photos, behind-the-scenes crap, and last week about 20 new photos were dropped (only none of them were the actual print ad image). And then last night Dior finally dropped three videos that I’m sure Twihards were watching on a loop all night. Let’s get started.

First, here’s the “official” Dior commercial:

It’s pretty. Rob looks sexy. The girl looks sexy. He has beautiful bone structure. The commercial doesn’t make me interested in the cologne, and after months of anticipation, this falls short.

Here’s the “uncut, uncensored, director’s cut” Dior commercial (note: there isn’t any nudity or anything so I don’t get why this has the “uncensored” tag):

I actually like this a little better. It seems to tell a “love story” and I could have watched another few minutes of Rob and the French girl making out. Can I just say? The French girl, Camille Rowe, is a better actor than Sparkles. SHE is the sexy one and he’s just playing off of it. She’s kittenish and adorable. Sparkles is good at kissing on camera though, isn’t he?

And here’s Robert Pattinson’s official Dior interview:

I always forget how much I like his voice when he’s speaking with his normal accent. Now, is he pretentious and try-hard? A little bit.

So, what do you think overall? Can you believe that they made us wait all these months for JUST this stuff?

God Sparkles is hot! I especially love the play-bite thing half-way through the video. I got all sorts of inappropriate tingles – in the office!

    • lady mary. says:

me 2 ,it was hot ,especially those 4 extra clips ,ROB was his old sexy self again ,Camille was perfect ,not over the top or obscure ,must say i find him hot again ,who cares abt that bloody bottle of cologne anyway ,i always watch these ads to enjoy the fashion ,glamour and romance they provide ,anyways its the way these perfumessmell that makes me by them ,kudos to rob!

    • Nicolette says:

Yes he is. Liked the second video so much better than the first. He looks damn fine to me!

    • Mirella says:

I agree, it was hot. Wow.

    • Jenn says:

What did this ad get, like 100,000 hits within 30 mins. on Dior site. This is one commercial, and I avoid them at all costs)that caught my attention from beginning to end. It’s hot and sexy and you want to keep seeing it to see what happens. I didn’t think Rob fed off Camille’s sexiness for he has his own sexy look going on. He sure can make romance look hot and sexy. This was a good choice for him and Dior.

    • Dreamer says:

I don’t know what some of your were smoking, but both versions are hotter than a firecracker. Rob smolders and looks sexy and Camille is putty in his hands. He’s the one in control of this, from start to finish.

I think the over 4 million hits on YT prove what a huge success this is for Rob. And no one deserves success more than him. He’s had a rough year and came through it like the gentleman he is. Can’t wait to see his new films, he’s working with the masters, as he should be.

  2. LindyLou says:

It looked like a little chemistry was going on between those two. Maybe she is why RPattz is suddenly interested in French girls??

    • Annie says:

I hope so!! I ship them now!

    • MissMoody says:

One of the Robsten stories floating around in the aftermath of the Mini Cooper incident was that, after shooting the commerical, Rob apologized to Kristen because he said he had basically gotten carried away with the models on set, out of anger. Sounded like Twi-Hard rubbish but….maybe something to it

      • pippa says:

Robsten shippers are delusional. They will come up with all kinds of theories to keep their fantasy alive. IMO they saw the ad and saw how cute Rob/Camille were together, they saw the bts , the playfulness between them and got panicky that Rob may have more than flirted with Camille and started this rumor to make themselves feel better 😆

Look at the way he looks at the model. They thought that he ONLY looked at KS like that. Now they know he was just acting in Twilight – he is not Edward in love with his real life Bella. These are the people who think Rob/KS never broke up. Pathetic.

  3. AL says:

I’m always here for RPatz. YUM!

  4. PunkyMomma says:

Mixed feelings, here. It’s beautifully shot. I like the overall noir feeling of it. But there were one or two shots that made me cringe. (The close-up of him driving the BMW – he looks like he’s about to blow chunks.) IDK. I agree about Camille Rowe seeming to be the better actor. It’s just not as smoldering as I expected it would be and, at times, it seemed to me that Rob appeared to be trying too hard.

  5. Vera says:

I’m not a fan of his though everything looks okay. Why are there subtitles in the interview?

  6. Vee says:

I love this, all of it! I think Rob and the model are fantastic together!

  7. Luisa says:

I thought it was well done. Rob is beautiful and sexy.

  8. jinni says:

It’s alright, but I hate the version of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole lotta love” that they used. It was grating on the ears.

  9. Becca says:

I think the ad is sexy and edgy and Rob looks beautiful. Why am I not surprised that he gets hate for his acting on here? Guy can’t do anything right. I think he does a fantastic job. Go to the official Dior site, they have tons of extras and some secret scenes, which are beyond hot. I’d take an ad like this over Brad’s, Franco’s, well anyone else’s really. It’s classy and fun and I wish Rob every success. Well worth the wait.

    • pippa says:

      I agree!

Also I disagree that Camille is acting her pants off and Rob is just playing off her her. Where do people see this? She is cute alright. This ad showed class, tension, tenderness, lust, sweetness, playfulness, sophistication, sensual, youthfulness. Rob delivered. But of course never give him any credit. He is just good to look at and the others do the rest 🙄

I loved all of it. Especially the director’s cut and the extra scenes. The empty pool scene where they fight and make up is hot and so is the elevator one. I love how the whole ad is in b&w and ends up in color in the end with Rob walking towards the camera with a slight smirk. Rob did well bringing Romain on board.

      • Becca says:

Another thing he gets no credit for. He basically chose to bring Gavras on board and to all intents and purposes had a huge input into the art direction. Rob is the real deal, talented, creative, gorgeous and charasmatic. He’s got it all IMO.

    • Miss Bennett says:

Very well said and I totally agree.

    • Mazunte says:

I totally agree. This add is more dynamic, fun and sexy that the one with Brad (terrible one). The one with Franco was okay, but I prefer this one.

  10. Gabby says:

It was still pretty hot. Although I think it couldn’t be a good thing that I forgot it was to promote cologne.

  11. Annabelle says:

I think the very slow roll-out of this campaign killed any interest I initially had in it. Now that it’s finally here, all I can muster is “meh.”

    • Anname says:

You can’t blame Dior for all of that, so much was leaked online before the official release.

      • Annabelle says:

If Dior mismanaged the campaign and couldn’t keep the images under wraps, then yes, I do blame Dior.

  12. Mia 4S says:

Meh. The very definition of “meh”. Don’t build something up for months that doesn’t deliver, it’s silly.

    • pippa says:

I disagree. The final product was still great despite the bts and the teasers.

    • Brie says:

I fail to see the hot in this guy. Then again I prefer manly men and Rob reminds me of my high school bfs, not quite a man yet.

      • Jenn says:

Rob’s got the type of body I love, long, lanky, no beefcake muscles, just natural born with muscles. He has wonderful shoulders and is one of the best looking men in a suit. I like the whole package.

      • M. says:

I feel the same way. Surprised that most people here found him sexy. He just seems like too much of a dork to me to pull off the smooth playboy thing. Maybe I’d buy it if he weren’t so goofy in interviews.

  13. Mrs. Darcy says:

I like Sparkles with more hair, he needs it to soften his slightly Frankenstein shaped head/features. I don’t think black and white really looks that great on digital, I don’t get why it’s so popular again. The ad isn’t bad though (the director’s cut),didn’t bother watching the other one. Way less annoying than the Keira Knightly Chanel ads anyway.

    • Bored suburbanhousewife says:

Co-sign on missing his hair. Too short accentuates what some call the shovel face. The hair softened the lines.

  14. Tig says:

I loved everything about it- thought Rob and Camille did a great job. I loved the scene when he took the “woman of a certain age” on the dance floor- it was beautiful, and she looked amazing. Well done by all.

    • pippa says:

Yes. First she is unsure and standoffish but Dior Homme man can charm the pants off women of all ages and she ends up having fun dancing with him.

      • Alice says:

I hope the scenes with the older woman will make another version of the ad, ’cause they’re really great. Maybe there gonna be a bit different pre-Chtistmas campaign to be released like in mid-November, ’cause in BTS video there are very beautiful snow kissing scenes and the ones by the fireplace that are kinda Christmas-themed.

  15. Alice says:

Dior apparently wanted Rob moody and smoldering in the ad. He was constantly smiling in behind-the-scenes video, but none of the shots made the final cut. And Jude Law was kinda stone-faced in the Dior ads too.

  16. pretty says:

omg. that was really hot. the second video. I love his face expression when he’s holding her hands and leading her to somewhere else in that formal looking(?) place. he’s really good looking. especially with short hair.

  17. Kenny says:

No way you can deny this doesn’t make you let go of Sparkles moniker bc he’s a grown man here, transcends his prior performances even in this advert. A non twilight fan I am never really paid attn until I saw this yesterday. He’s good in it, better than Anything… Confident, bad boy and sexy. Wow shocked. I now see what all the chatter was about.

  18. Ai says:

I liked it as well; much better than most celeb perfume ads.

  19. MeganDraper says:

Not a bad ad campaign. Certainly better than someone else’s. He looks gorgeous. When he is all in, you can believe the character he is playing. I think the behind the scenes clip was better. He was laughing away.

  20. Olivia says:

It is a beautiful commercial but doesn’t it defeat the whole romantic, broody image Rob says he is trying to escape? It is like a montage of his films, twilight, remember me, cosmopolis and WFE with a splash of twilight fan fic thrown in for super sexiness. I feel like the commercial really features both of them, Camille is as prominent in it as Rob like just Rob wasn’t enough so they paired him with a female to make it interesting. Without Camille’s playfulness, it would just be Rob looking super serious and sexy. He looks great in it, love the overcoat. He should wear that in real life and ditch the hobo wear.

When will the perfume be available?

    • Anname says:

Yes, he and Camille complement each other very well, and make each other look better.

It’s great the media reactions seem to be very positive so far.

    • PunkyMomma says:

Olivia – I agree completely about the montage. The elevator kiss is shot from an angle that mirrors the prom kiss in Twilight. The water scene mirrors Little Ashes. The roof running mirrors Jacob running atop the train in WFE, as well as the shot where Rob looks through the beaded curtain at Camille – think Jacob watching Marlena through the door. The ballroom scene mirrors Bel Ami – Georges DuRoy is an outsider in the midst Parisian aristocracy. And the scene where Rob is driving the white BMW is Eric Packer taking charge. The New York backdrop suggests Remember Me. I know. I got it bad.

    • Another Ann says:

The perfume has been available for years. It’s not a new scent, just a new ad campaign and “face”.

  21. DB says:

My first comment disappeared, here’s the gist of it again…

The ad is playful, sensual and energetic. Exceptional chemistry between Robert and Camille. Exceeds expectations and getting great overall response. Well worth the wait. I don’t get the negative bias some have against Robert and/or his acting…

  22. FreeSpiritedGirl says:

OOOOOH I LOVED IT! I agree Rob’s kiss scene was HOOOOOOOOOT! And Camille Rowe is so sweeeeet! Like you said, ‘kitten’. 😀 Rob & Camille looked perfect together. I like people who laugh and smile. They both looked so adorable! Oh while watching the ad I was wishing if he had such a kittenish girlfriend. 😀

  23. Tessa says:

Probably the best commercial I’ve ever seen, except for maybe Charlize stomping that runway which also happened to be Dior, so they know what they’re doing clearly. Beautiful and sexy all around.

  24. K-Rock says:

Why was he running on a roof? Is that “artsy” and I just don’t get it? He’s really cute but my interest waned after the first few seconds.

  25. shump says:

You can tell he’s spent too much time in the US, his accent is so watered down now.

  26. Ella says:

Ok that was actually sexy. Love it, love it. The longer director’s cut version is definitely better.

  27. Jennifer12 says:

He really just smolders; he’d have been an intense movie star in the 30s and 40s. He’s quite good in films he feels invested in; I don’t think he is invested in being the star of commercials and was told it’d be good for his career.

  28. Jennifer12 says:

I think they’re going for a bit of a Belmondo feel?

  29. l says:

great ad. dior should redo rob’s entire wardrobe. no more hobo.

  30. Sasha says:

Twihards? FFS!Can you get over that already? Rob is a man, his admirers have moved on long ago. Dior and Robert Pattinson are a match made in heaven.

  31. CarrieUK says:

Never found him hot….however I’ll have a rethink cause he’s looking very sexy right there, I liked it, but I’ve ignored all previous photos/vids of this campaign so it’s new to me (out of shear laziness nothing more) I enjoyed it.

  32. BB says:

I thought it was great. Sexy, fun, and energetic. Rob has wonderful chemistry with the girl, and they both do a fantastic job. Rob was made for photography like this–so handsome. I also loved the shots of him and the older, perfectly coifed lady. Hope that scene makes the cut in a different version. Playful and left me smiling.

  33. Lucy says:

Great ad! I’ve always had a big soft spot for Rob and want him to do well. I hope he can move on to bigger, better things now!

  34. lindyuk says:

I liked this……I liked it very, very much….nothing else to say hee hee!!!!

  35. ds says:

I guess there’s a directors cut because the director probably had this story flow he wanted and the first commercial lacks that. It’s about the editing and in directors cut it’s much better. It’s more film like whereas in first video it’s like watching random shots with music to give some support. And agree, love the model she nailed it.

  36. Abby says:

Hot.Especially the kissing scenes. I liked the second commercial better. But it could have been any hot guy really.

  37. Janet says:

I actually see some chemistry between him and Rowe whereas I saw none at all between him and KStew.

  38. Diana says:

Goodness that ad it’s hot! I don’t care what anyone says, that left me tingling all over… sigh…

  39. Claudia says:

Second commercial was better, but I quickly lost interest not even half way through. Very ‘meh’. Not necessarily because of him, I just find celebrity perfume/cologne ads to be very bland and forgettable in general. I do like the ones with Charlize though.

  40. moon says:

Wow sparkles has grown up, these ads are sexy! I beg to differ, I think sparkles is sexier than the french girl. Also, best acting I’ve ever seen out of sparkles. Says a lot.

  41. moon says:

I think it’s censored because they were smoking a joint in the director’s cut

  42. TherapyCranes says:

The second video was so much better than the first one. The first one was a bit underwhelming but the uncut version was really great. He looks hot.

  43. Cyndi says:

    Fapfapfapfapfapfap. (o;

  44. Denise says:

Having to act with an American accent and live in the US has really changed his accent, he’s got one of those hybrid accents now where it’s about 70/30 depending what words he’s saying. Americans won’t pick up on it but it will be very obvious to Brits.

    • another nina says:

I’m neither American nor Brit but I can hear it as well. Plus you can hear that he talks a lot with American producers, directors, all this movie crowd because he uses a lot of typical expressions and intonations, so he sounds to me like a conference call from time to time 😉

  45. Adeli says:

The fashion and beauty blogs and mainstream media are going nuts over the new Dior Homme ad! 2 million hits already on You Tube in the first 24 hours of its release. Take a bow, Robert, Romain, Camille and Dior. I wish Dior would put the extra scenes on their You Tube channel. Everybody needs to see it. I’m actually hoping they’ll release a longer film with all the in depth scenes cut together.

  46. E-v-E says:

he’s borderline channeling JT here, less try hard but still not quite ‘homme’ he wants to be. I miss some smiling, at least in that car sequence and when he’s carrying her it looks as if she has terminal illness or sth so it’s all a replay of his memories of their ‘perfect’ getaway. Not really impressed, even though there are some nice shots. Girl is giving me young Sienna Miller vibe, the character seems needy, childlish, demanding perpetual grandness of events and hence, sucking the life out of poor inlove guy. That would make this cologne smell of misery and heartache. Well done Dior 😀

  47. Reece says:

Somebody got his sexy back. 😀
